When the usual answers haven’t worked, look deeper.

For twenty years, patients across the Lowcountry have come to Dr. Raymond Halstead after other care stalled — herniated discs, failed injections, post-surgical pain. Every case begins with a full review of what is actually driving it.

Why patients are referred here

The practice other doctors send their hardest cases to.

When a disc problem doesn’t follow the textbook, it needs someone who has seen the exceptions. That reputation is why primary-care physicians, orthopedists, and past patients keep sending people to Halstead Spine & Disc.

“Non-surgical decompression can reduce intradiscal pressure and give a contained herniation the room it needs to recede — but only when the case is selected carefully.”

Lumbar Disc Herniation

When a disc pushes against a nerve root, the pain rarely stays in one place. It travels — into the hip, down the leg, sometimes to the foot — and it changes depending on how you sit, stand, and sleep. That pattern is diagnostic, and reading it correctly is the difference between a care plan that works and one that guesses.

Most contained herniations do not need surgery. The goal is to take mechanical pressure off the disc and give the body room to reabsorb the material on its own.

We start with imaging review and a full mechanical exam, then decide whether decompression is appropriate — and, just as importantly, when it is not.

About the doctor

Dr. Raymond Halstead, D.C.

Dr. Halstead has spent two decades on the problems most practices refer out. He trained in non-surgical spinal decompression, works directly from imaging, and is candid when a case belongs with a surgeon instead. Patients describe the same thing: for the first time, someone took the whole picture seriously.
